Oxfam GB Humanitarian office in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Journalist (AJI) conducted the Disaster Risk Reduction and the Mass Media Training Workshop in Denpasar, Bali, on 9 - 11 November 2007.
The participants were 30 journalists from national and prominent mass media (newspapers, radios and televisions) of 13 disaster prone provinces.
The aim of the workshop is to engage the Indonesian media to play their role effectively to make sure the message of disaster risk reduction is well delivered and transferred. Also, it is hoped that the media, with its massive strength could influence and educate all the targeted audience about disaster risk reduction and its implementation in country.
The workshop were delivered in an interactive manner and as applicabe and relevant as possible for journalists. Some reading materials and resources were disseminated to the journalist for further in-depth learning.
“I am happy to finally meet up with journalists from all over Indonesia. I really hope through this workshop, Oxfam can contribute something in order to advocating the mass media about the disaster risk reduction,”says Ariani Hasanah Soejoeti, the communication officer of Oxfam GB Humanitarian office at the end of the workshop.
