Yesterday (28/11), Nugie and his friends who have joined “United Voices of Indonesia” launched a song and video clip entitled “Dunia Berbagilah” or translated as World, let’s share together. This song is the theme song for The United Nations Conference for Climate Change which will take place from 3 to 14 December 2007 in
The success of the production and launch of this song is due to the support from The Indonesian State Ministry of Environment and Oxfam. During the press conference, Rachmat Witoelar, the Indonesian State Minister for Environment, stated, “The song is an effective and elegant platform to convey a message, invite the public to jointly maintain and preserve the environment and stop the climate change from getting worse.”
Ari Margiono, Oxfam spoke person, also said, “Climate change is a problem for everybody. However, in fact, it is the underprivileged people who suffer the most.”
Oxfam also screened a short video featuring a testimony from an old farmer from Tanimbar concerning the impact of climate change on his cultivation. Minister of Environment appreciated and said, “See, this is what is actually happening on the ground, and they know what happen”.
Nugie, the songwriter said, “With various considerations, I have tried to do something that will be useful for the environment. When I contacted my fellow artists and invited them to join me to do something for Indonesia, they asked, “What is it for, Gie?” I answered, “For the environment.” They immediately responded, “OK, Let’s go!” I was more convinced to do it because of them. Together, we formed a force, which we called United Voices of Indonesia. We believe that the global warming will not only have an impact on developing countries, but also the whole population in the world.
During the press conference, Oxfam also asked these artists on their enthusiasm to join the activity, and here are some of their responses:
“I think it is important to do something about the climate change. My role is more to change my own way of life, for example, to save gasoline, electricity and water. Pongky, Jikustik
“I am part of the world’s population who has to be responsible for whatever happens in this world.” Tere
“I am very happy that I can be a part of this force to sing “Dunia Berbagilah”. I feel that the climate change has gone extreme. For example, the dry and rainy seasons have become irregular and are changing from time to time. This must be due to the global warming. “ Sandy, Pass Band
“I am concerned with the global warming issue. Therefore, I feel that I have the responsibility to do something about it. As an artist, one of the contributions that we can make is to present a song which can encourage people to do something to save the world.” Edwin Manansang, Trio Libels
