Dari judulnya saja, orang pasti bisa menebak, bahwa seminar ini akan membicarakan hal-hal yang sepertinya memiliki banyak tantangan. Mungkin timbul pertanyaan “Bagaimana mencapai kedaulatan pangan, apabila persoalan pangan di Indonesia ini sangat kompleks dan ruwet?”
Hari Pertama: Seminar
Didalam seminar yang diselenggarakan oleh Oxfam GB dan Komnas Ham pada tanggal 29 Januari 2008 yang bertempat di Gedung Komnasham, Jakarta, para pembicara mencoba untuk memberikan telaah kritis terhadap Undang-Undang No. 7 Tahun 1996 tentang pangan dalam kaitannya dengan upaya mewujudkan kedaulatan pangan dan keadilan sosial dan juga memberikan rekomendasi kebijakan yang mengadopsi prinsip-prinsip kovenan Ekonomi, Sosial Budaya (Ekosob) Para pembicara seminar berasal berbagai institusi seperti Bappenas, FAO, Dewan Ketahanan Pangan, Komnas Ham, La Via Campesina, The Indonesia Human Rights Committee for Social Justice (IHCS), dan juga Oxfam GB.

Oh yea, I can remember clearly how HOT it was that Sunday. As long as live, never had I experienced this kinda heat. It was beyond imagination, even close to Saudi Arabia last time I lived there. Nonetheless I had a really great time in Rawa Buaya.
Imelda, did you remember back in primary school when all of the students MUST attended the Girls’ Scout club? I was just being young and stupid due to the fact that I hate it so much. You know when you just want to be popular and cool in school right? And girl’s scout is just so far from that image.

I was awaken by the irritatingly noisy sound of my alarm o’clock on that bright Sunday morning. I set it up at 6AM and it was already 6.15AM now. I guess it had been ringing for sometime waking up the whole house until finally, transmitted into my subliminal stage and woke me up.I hurriedly went to get ready as I promised Rina, my charming Oxfam colleague from Yogyakarta, to pick her up as we planned to go to an event in Rawa Buaya (directly translated as ‘Crocodile Swamp’ as historically, there might be crocodiles in the area which was why it was named after the animal). It is a place where Bina Masyarakat Peduli (BMP), one of Oxfam-supported local organisation, organised an emergency drill for Jakarta-based volunteers to train them in managing emergency situations such as when disasters struck.
